Overcast Help and Tips

NOTE: Overcast is not installed by default, so you may have to install it first from the App Store or from this link: https://overcast.fm/

When you purchase your first MP3 from the MP3 store, you will receive two emails: one email with a link to download MP3s directly to your device and a second email with a link to activate your own private MP3s podcast feed.

**Please note: we recommend you subscribe from your phone, or whichever will be the device you most use to listen to your MP3s.**

1️⃣ Click the "Start Listening" button in the second email to subscribe to your own private podcast feed. A new Window will open. It will display the podcast apps available for your device.

2️⃣ Tap the Overcast icon which will expand the view to show a "Subscribe" button. Tap the "Subscribe" button.👇

3️⃣ This will launch Overcast. Tap "Follow" in the pop-up window (see image below👇) to confirm your subscription to your own private podcast.

You only need to subscribe once.

For future MP3 purchases, as long as you use the same email address at checkout as you did for past purchases, new MP3s will automatically appear in your private podcast feed.

And remember, no other customer and no member of the public can see your MP3s as the feed is private and only visible to you.

Now that you are subscribed, make these simple changes in settings to keep MP3s visible and to download your MP3s automatically. It only takes a minute.

By default, most podcast apps will remove podcast episodes after they are played once. Don't worry; they are only hidden, not deleted from your app.

Here's what to change to regain access to your MP3s and keep them visible forever.

1️⃣ Open Overcast on your device.👇

2️⃣ Click on the Overcast icon in the bottom bar and then tap your Unlock Your Life MP3s feed to open it. 👇

3️⃣ Click the Settings tab. 👇

4️⃣ Change your settings to the following:

If you want to download new MP3s automatically, change the setting below to "Download".

Click the + sign in "Keep Unplayed Episodes" until the setting states "Keep ALL unplayed episodes".

Set the "Delete Episodes" setting to "Manual" so your MP3s remain visible after you listen to them.

Your settings should now look the same as in the image below. 👇

4️⃣ Click the < icon to save settings and close this screen.

That's it! You only need to do this once.

And, as long as you use the same email address at checkout for future purchases, all future MP3 purchases will be automatically added to your private MP3s podcast feed. And you will still have the option to download MP3s separately.

2️⃣ Tap the Unlock Your Life MP3s Feed to open it.

3️⃣ Click the Settings tab.👇

4️⃣ Change your settings to the following:

1. Press the + button until the display shows "Keep all Unplayed Episodes".

2. If you want to automatically download all MP3s change the "Downloading" setting to "Download".👇 This will download all past, current and future MP3s or podcast episodes for that particular feed.

5️⃣ Click the < icon to save settings and close this screen. You only need to make these changes once per device. You can customize these settings for each device where you have installed Overcast.

Please note: You may also wish to verify if you have wi-fi only downloads or wi-fi AND mobile data downloads enabled. If you have wi-fi only downloads enabled, you will not receive downloads when only connected to mobile data. If you enable mobile data, you may be charged for data so please check your phone plan or device plan.

Yes, you can create playlists in Overcast to which you can add individual MP3s from your Unlock Your Life MP3s feed.

1️⃣ Open up Overcast. Then, click on the Playlists icon at the top to create a new Playlist.👇

2️⃣ Choose Custom Playlist.👇

3️⃣ Enter a name and choose a custom colour for the playlist.👇

4️⃣ Click on the "Include" tab to the left of "All Episodes" ☝️ and change the Setting from "All Episodes" to "Only Selected Episodes". 👇

5️⃣ You will be back on the screen below. Tap on the last option "Included Episodes".

You can tap the radio button next to the MP3s you want to add to your playlist.👇

Second way to add MP3s to Playlists (once the playlists are created).

Alternatively, you can add MP3s from the main Unlock Your Life Podcasts.

1️⃣ Open Overcast. Tap to open Unlock Your Life MP3s podcast.

2️⃣ Tap the MP3 you wish to add to a playlist. An orange menu bar will appear below the MP3 "episode" (see image below👇).

3️⃣ Tap the 3 dots below each MP3 and from the menu that appears, tap "Add To..." then select the playlist you have created. Your MP3 is now added to the playlist.

NOTE: you need to create the playlist first and also change the setting to "Only Selected Episodes" before it will be available here as an option: 👇

There are a few extra features in Overcast compared to Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, such as:

1️⃣ the ability to search by title; this is useful if you have purchased several Unlock Your Life MP3s

2️⃣ the ability to archive individual MP3s. When you buy an MP3 in the future, you may get a bonus MP3 with tips or educational information. You may not want to keep these after you listen once so you can remove these in Overcast

3️⃣ the ability to set custom times to skip the intro and outro

4️⃣ the ability to create playlists, for example, for sleep, self-esteem, affirmations etc.

Overcast is available for Mac and iOS (iPhone and iPad) and can be downloaded from the following link: https://overcast.fm/ or the App Store on your Apple device.

No. Your Unlock Your Life MP3s feed is protected by the latest privacy technology and is only visible to you. Your feed is not visible to any other customer or any member of the public as this is a private feed. Also, each person has their unique feed, which only shows the MP3s they have purchased.

We recommend you always have a password or some security on your phone or device to protect the privacy of your feed in the same way that you would safeguard any app or content on your phone, computer or tablet.

Now that you have activated your MP3s podcast feed, let's make sure you can access your MP3s across all your Apple devices.

1️⃣ Open Overcast on your device.👇

2️⃣ Tap the Gear icon in the top left corner.👇

3️⃣ Tap the first option "Sync". 👇

4️⃣ Tap "Add Email and Password". 👇

5️⃣ Enter your email address and choose a password. Then, click the orange button "Set For My Profile". 👇

6️⃣ Click the < icon to save settings and close this screen.

7️⃣ Now ensure you are logged in with your email address and password on all your Apple devices. This will also give you access to your MP3s and playlists of MP3s on all your Apple devices, including Apple Watch.

Now you can even set up playlists which you can play from any device, including your Apple Watch. Read how to set up playlists in Overcast here.

When you buy MP3s in the future from the Unlock Your Life MP3 store, as long as you use the same email address at checkout for future purchases, all future MP3 purchases will be added automatically to your private MP3s podcast feed. You will still have the option to download MP3s separately.

And you will still receive an email that allows you to download the MP3 directly. The private podcast feed is a second way to enjoy listening to your MP3s.

1️⃣ To find your new MP3s in your podcast feed, open Overcast on your Mac or Apple device.

2️⃣ Click on the Overcast icon in the bottom bar and then tap your Unlock Your Life MP3s feed to open it.

3️⃣ Tap the "All" tab to see all your MP3s, including your recent purchase.👇

If you have used more than one email address at checkout on the MP3 store in the past, and want to consolidate all your MP3s in one podcast feed, please contact us here.

If you are logged in to Overcast with a user name and password, your podcasts and MP3s or podcast episodes will be restored when you sign in to Overcast again on your new device.

If, for any reason, you do not see your Unlock Your Life podcast(s) again, please get in touch so we can send you a link to subscribe again and regain access to your private feed and MP3s.

When you buy an MP3 in the future, you may get bonus tip MP3 or explainer podcast episodes that give you tips to make the most of your MP3s. You may not want to keep these after you've listened once, so here's how to remove them.

Open Overcast on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.👇

1️⃣ Click on the Podcasts icon in the bottom bar on the left and click on the Unlock Your Life MP3s podcast icon. All your MP3s will be under the "All" tab. 👇

2️⃣ For the MP3 you don't want to keep, simply swipe to the left until you remove it from the view OR click the bin icon in the red rectangle. If you ever want to view what is archived, you can click the "ALL" tab again (see screen below 👇) to see all your MP3s.

A sleep timer is a way to set the exact length of time that you wish to listen to your last MP3 of the day. You may need, for example, 30 minutes to fall asleep but the MP3 you like lasts longer than that. Here's how to ensure you only play the exact number of minutes that you need.

1️⃣ Open Overcast and click to open the Unlock Your Life MP3s podcast icon.

2️⃣ From the list of all your MP3s, tap on the MP3 you wish to listen to as you fall asleep.

The bottom bar in your app will now display the MP3 currently playing.

3️⃣ Tap the orange up arrow icon ^ in the bottom left to expand the view.👇

4️⃣ Click the orange 🕙 clock icon at the bottom left of the screen.👇

5️⃣ Once you start playing the MP3, a sleep timer option will appear. You can then select the duration for which you would like to listen to the audio, either until the end or for a specific number of minutes. 👇

To cancel the sleep timer, you can tap the orange clock 🕙 icon again and tap "Cancel Timer".

IMPORTANT: this will not block all notifications on your device. You will need to set your phone to turn off all other notifications. Please consult with the help documentation for you phone or device.

Yes, it does, and as it also has playlists capability, you could set up your playlist of motivation affirmations for your morning walk or run, and have your sleep playlist available for night time.

We do not provide support for Apple watch but this article may be useful in helping you set up Overcast on your Apple watch.

Our support is limited to ensuring that you have information to:

1. subscribe to an Unlock Your Life MP3s podcast and

2. ensure that you obtain and retain access to any MP3s or episodes to which you are legally permitted access.

Specifically, we at Unlock Your Life provide essential support to ensure you have the information to be able to do the following:

1. Subscribe: Provide information on how to subscribe to an Unlock Your Life podcast

2. View and play MP3s or episodes: Provide help to show how to change settings to keep MP3s visible and accessible

3. Download MP3s or episodes to a supported podcast app: Provide information to show you how to download an MP3 or episode so you can listen to it offline in one of the five compatible podcast apps.

We have provided more than the minimum help files as there is no existing formal help documentation for Overcast. We have had to test out the app ourselves in order to create the existing documentation.

However, just as with Youtube or the Youtube app, we do not own, build or maintain any podcast app and therefore do not formally support any of the podcast apps. For any other app specific questions, you can contact Overcast here although it seems that they may not provide support, but may be open to feedback and suggestions.
